Newsclip has developed an interactive web-based analysis system that can produce weekly, monthly, or periodic reports with live graphic representation of the data. In addition to this, year-on-year comparative period reports are also available, to compare up to 52 weeks of data.

Basic report generation through the Trend-Based Analysis system includes:

Data Cool:

These are graphs depicting print, broadcast and online mentions; also providing clip counts. The statistical reports provided are summaries of the requested publications, channels and websites.

Stats Cool:

These are graphs depicting print, broadcast and online mentions, providing a graphical representation of the total clip count; AVE (advertising value equivalence); and circulation values.

Statistical reports provided are broken down as follows:  Print - statistical overview, media type, and region summary; Broadcast – channel summary; and Online - website summary.

Image Cool:

These are graphs depicting print, broadcast and online mentions, providing a graphical representation of clip count and the tonality on the coverage.

Statistical reports provided include: Negative summaries for print, broadcast and online data; image summaries for print, broadcast and online coverage; a print byline summary report; and observation on image reports.

Byline Cool:

Byline Cool refers to data that graphically breaks down information that correlates the journalists who write about certain topics with the tonality of the resulting coverage. This statistical report consists of a byline summary, providing journalists with a 10 week trend overview, per journalist, by favourability.

Newsclip’s Media Information Database maintains all the 'static' information about each publication, including advertising rates; media group, media type; geographic distribution; and the latest circulation figures.

These statistical reports are automatically generated weekly or monthly, based on clip count; area measurement; advertising value; and geographic reach. Consolidation reports are then produced on request - for example, a company may require a 12-month report for its annual report; or a quarterly report for its board meetings.

There are a considerable number of report formats already available, and any additional requested reports are simple to construct, as Newsclip develops all of its software in-house and has customisable templates.

Basic report generation includes:

Clip count;
Area measurement;
AVE value;
Circulation value;
PR value;
Media type;
Geographic reach; and more.

Qualitative reports are generated monthly, weekly or for a specified period, such as a campaign or event. The reports include the following variables on coverage received:

·        An executive summary.
·        Statistical information for the period, including trends.
·        Distribution of print coverage, highlighting the most prominent publications, regions
         and media types where the coverage was received.
·        Image perception for print, broadcast and online coverage, providing a graphical
         representation, with the most prominent issues highlighted.
·        A conclusion matrix with the previous months’ data on overall clip count; AVE value;
         and positive and negative percentages for the specified evaluation period.

The Executive Driver is a 'quick turnaround' report generating service. It provides qualitative analysis on specific issues recently published in the media.

This report includes the following:

- Clip count;
- Media type;
- Reach;
- Publications;
- Bylines; and more.

The Executive Driver then takes these variables and consolidates them in written format, explaining how the topic unfolded and generated coverage in the media.

As event branding and sponsorship activities become an integral part of any company’s marketing communication strategy, the need to measure Return on Investment (ROI) becomes vitally important.

Newsclip can monitor the full period of an event (pre-event, event and post-event), and provide media-centric analysis of the period under consideration. We then generate outcomes-based valuation reports which include meaningful media insights.
Valuations are never finite. However, a measured valuation based upon accredited values goes a long way toward understanding how ‘return on investment’ can be calculated. Clients should keep in mind that media coverage is only one element of the overall effect of sponsorship investment.
Factors taken into account include:

·         All quantitative variables – clip count, AVE, media groups, media types, geographic
          distribution, favourability, bylines, and more;
·         Sponsor mentions;
·         Name variations of the event;
·         Key issues (if any); and
·         Photographic appreciation.

Event Branding:

Within sponsorship investment, TV coverage of an event requires measurement of the total brand/ logo exposure. Newsclip has developed a time delineation system that details the amount of exposure each ‘logo’ receives over the duration of the event.

This information creates a platform for all the stakeholders involved in an event to understand its perceived valuation in media terms, and where improvements can be made for the next event.

With the changing economy, it has become imperative to track one’s competitors’ media coverage in order to stay abreast of any changes within one’s industry. Newsclip has developed a competitor intelligence monitoring report that provides vital information on the competitors within an industry. These reports depict graphical representations on share of voice for each competitor, and a ranking indication of each stakeholder.

In this analysis, a Media Grading Factor is taken into account. This is a comparative unit of measure per individual publication, irrespective of media type or media group. To determine the media grading factor, all media circulation figures are taken into account, as well as advertising rates and favourability. The circulation factor is the statistical result of the circulation, spread across all media in South Africa, plus the advertising average across the same media spread. Overlaid, these factors provide an overall grading result that rates media exposure.

Favourability is innovatively worked out based on a four-tier evaluation scheme:

          A concerning article with a controversial undertone will have a negative value.

          Complimentary articles with positive affirmations will have a positive value.

          Media presence is also shown as a positive value.

          The impact of this positive and negative coverage is indicated by the media presence or overall impact.

This results in a Media Grading Value, which is ascribed to each individual publication, type, group or region. When image perception is placed on the article, the ‘true’ impact of the article is represented by this media grading factor.
